Rahee Foundation is a non-profit organization in Toronto, founded in 2024 by people from the Iranian diaspora. We work against the censorship of what Persian speakers are allowed to read, write and say.
The problem
Censorship is not only what gets banned
Most people picture censorship as a list of forbidden books. In practice it works in three quieter ways, and we work against each of them.

What gets cut
In Iran a book needs a permit before it can be printed, and the ministry that issues it can require changes first. Publishers learn to predict those changes and make them in advance. The book reaches the shelf looking complete. Nobody is told what is missing.

What never arrives
A great deal of the world's writing has never been translated into Persian, or exists only in a version trimmed to get a permit. A gap on the shelf is the form of censorship that is easiest to miss, because there is nothing there to notice.

What cannot be said
Writers, translators and journalists are prosecuted for what they publish. The point of prosecuting one is to quiet a hundred. We make the case for freedom of expression where it is decided — in policy forums, in international law, and in the press.

Israel: A Concise History of a Nation Reborn

For most Persian readers there has never been an account of Israel's history available to them that did not come through the Islamic Republic. Gordis wrote a history from documented sources, and it has now been translated in full, with nothing removed.
